I was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and also lived and studied in Ottawa, Canada before immigrating to the United States in 1991.

I live in Jamaica Plain (part of Boston), Massachusetts with my family. I am happily married to Patricia Driscoll, who is a real estate agent. Our two cats were adopted from the MSPCA.

Besides some typical interests of an academic engineer, such as chess, bridge, science-fiction, Linux, technology and gadgets, I am a retired ultimate player (see UPA and BUDA sites) as well as an active curler (see Canadian Club of Boston, Broomstones Curling Club, and Boston University Curling Club.)
